Educate

The SCH&GS strives to instill in our community a sense of pride and connection through the production of informative and entertaining programs, digital content that focuses on our county’s history and heritage, and the placement of historic markers. In 2024, we organized a successful year-long bicentennial celebration to commemorate Simpson County’s 200 years of existence.

Preserve

In our 50 + year history, the Society has actively collected historical documents, oral history interviews, and artifacts with direct connections to Simpson County’s history, heritage, and citizens. We are currently engaged in building a digital archive to supplement our physical holdings of books, documents, and ephemera. The SCH&GS also works to identify and preserve buildings and other sites of historical significance.

Research

The Society is committed to helping historians and genealogists discover new connections to our county by providing access to our available resources, both in-person, and on-line. We wish to be a ready resource for professional and amateur enthusiasts, as well as, teachers, students, and writers.

Won’t you join us? The only requirement for membership is a love of history or genealogy and a willingness to get involved!
